Yamini Mehta is Specialist and Head of Modern and Contemporary Indian Art at Christie's. She previously worked as a specialist in Christie's New York department of Indian and Southeast Asian Art, which she helped to form in 1998. In her current role, Ms. Mehta has expanded and oversees sales in New York, Hong Kong and Dubai. Historical moments in the field include the sale of Tyeb Mehta's noted triptych Celebrations in 2002, the first work of Indian Modern art to sell above $100,000. This record remained in place until 2005 when under Ms. Mehta's stewardship, another work by the same artist, Mahisasura, became the first to surpass the $1,000,000 mark. Ms. Mehta is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. In addition to her specialty in classical, modern and contemporary Indian art, she has prior experience in the fields of museum education, journalism and publishing.
