Mentor Kolektiv

Mentor Kolektiv

‘Broke’ is the debut album by Mentor, one of the hottest producers coming out of the UK South Asian Music scene. Smashing lame stereotypes of South Asian youth, it turns the spotlight on what’s really on their minds and is set to become the icon for the South Asian youth that NWA’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ was to the kids of black America.

At just 24, Mentor already boasts numerous production credits for the likes of Jay Sean, Timbaland, Juggy D, Craig David, Jon B & even Nitin Sawhney. As the younger brother of the widely respected producer Rishi Rich, Mentor has spent 2005 performing around the UK with his rap clique the Mentor Kolektiv and is now tipped as the next big thing in UK South Asian/urban music. Drawing from Bhangra, Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall, Arabic & Swahili music, his trademark sound is heavy on the bass-lines with the emphasis on songwriting.

Album highlights include a reflective lament on the London bombings ‘7/7’, tongue n cheek rhymes about raving and girls to straight up UK grime. This certainly proves to be a bonafide urban heavyweight while effortlessly paying homage to a rich heritage of bhangra, Indian classical & folk music.

The title track ‘Broke’ is already receiving critical acclaim across clubs and radio stations and drops soon. The album is already available on 2Point9 Records.
