Singer/songwriter is probably the last career choice any East Indian family wants for their daughter. Nevertheless, destined by fate, it was the only lifestyle that rising star Deesha imagined. Growing up in the diverse musical metropolis of Toronto, Deesha began her love affair with music at a very young age. A creative loner from birth, Deesha garnered all of her musical energy to constantly pen lyrics while practicing songs and dance moves for her family. Her idols were Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige, with whom she would sing along to in the acoustics of her bathroom. As she matured, Deesha channeled her deep roots in Hindi music and combined them with her love of R&B. The result was a well rounded musician with a sound all her own. With years of experience, Deesha is geared for the release of her debut album, Life Less Ordinary; self-written and co-produced by the young mastermind herself.

Deesha’s entrance into the music industry began in 1995 with the Desi Records Urban South Asian compilation Tauba Tauba. Deesha was then featured on New Epoch Music’s 1998 Jagga Jat and again in 2000 on Big Groove Entertainment’s The Massacre. Both releases spanned the globe and featured some of the finest artists in South Asian music. However, in the interim of those releases, Deesha’s first single “Dried My Eyes” met the radio and video world. “Dried My Eyes” was not only featured on Canada’s MuchMusic, but also received frequent airplay on KISS 92.5 and CBC Radio Two, as well as a number of compilation spots (mp3.com’s Urban Music Compilation, GarageBand Records’ R&B Evolved, Best of R&B). Deesha then received airplay on two US commercial radio stations with “Get Outta My Life” on New York’s Z-100 and “Why Can’t We Go Back” San Diego’s Jammin Z90. “Why Can’t We Go Back” (awarded honorable mention in the 2002 USA Songwriting Competition) was remixed and released as a dance single in 2003 by NY based label Oh Music.

The year 2003 proved to be a milestone for Deesha. Her single “Falling In Love” became an instant summer anthem in Canada, and broke the Top 30 mark on the BDS Top 40 Canadian Charts. With constant Urban Radio rotation, the single was made into a video and featured on MuchMusic’s Indie Spotlight and MTV Canada’s World Chart Express. A “Making the Video” special aired for “Falling In Love” on TVOntario’s Vox. Later that year, the single was awarded honorable mention in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting contest.

Remaining true to her love of urban music, Deesha continued to constantly write and collaborate with local emcees. Her 2003 collaboration with Canadian rapper Arabesque on “Stardust” is still well received on both radio and video rotation. In 2005, Deesha opened for Lil’ Flip, performed in Chicago’s Hard Rock Cafe and released her promotional single “Do You Remember.”


Deesha began 2006 making multiple cameos on MTV Desi. She hosted and performed on their “Live from Puerto Rico” special, as well as “Maximum Party.” From there, MTV Desi aired a feature story on Deesha, along with a segment on their “Top 10 Desi Countdown.” The stage is now set for this rising star to become a household name. Having both talent and looks, Deesha will undoubtedly make a strong presence in music; only adding to her existing longevity. With a résumé like this, it’s only right that she named her musical offspring Life Less Ordinary.
